Getting started with archery

Have you been looking for a sport that is low-impact? Or maybe one of those sports that doesn't require any equipment at all like a ball or a racquet? Archery might be the perfect answer.

Archery is a sport with a lot of history that’s been beloved for generations. Many archers enjoy the focus and patience that comes with the sport, but also the skill that they build in the process. Not only that, but the sport is a great way to build a sense of confidence and feel accomplished.

So where should you start? The first step is to determine what type of bow you want to use. There are many types, but you can start with a recurve or traditional release. Determine what feels comfortable for you at first. You can always move on to something else later as you get to know the sport better.

Next, get your equipment from Lefebvres. You'll need at least one target and two arrows per person participating in the activity; more if you are going to share equipment.

Go outside and set up your target at the desired distance! For most people, a range of 20-30 yards will be great for starting out because it allows you to practice your form without having to think about how far away from the target they are shooting. This is also good for kids who have shorter arms.

Over time, as you become more used to the sport, you'll discover which pieces of equipment and accessories are more suited to your liking. Consider connecting with other archery enthusiasts in town and even enter tournaments if and when you feel comfortable.
